Do you have a variation with mesh bottom boards?
At this stage we only have the one model with a solid base.
How do you manage SHB (Small Hive Beetle)?
In the eight years we have been beekeeping we have always used Apithor and are yet to have SHB issues in any of our 6 hives. We have fellow beekeepers whose hives were constantly being overrun with SHB. We switched them a solid bottom board to replace their mesh ones, and an apithor. Within 2 weeks the SHB were virtually eliminated. Needless to say, they are converts.
We notice that your horizontal hive has the Beetltra slide trap. Is this your recommended SHB control?
The Beetltra is an effective system but we use it in conjunction with Apithor more as an indicator of what is going on in the hive as far as SHB and waxmoth.
Do you supply stands for your hives?
Not at this stage.
Do you supply the Langstroth frames?
No. The Horizontal Hive was developed to provide beekeepers with existing Hives to move their frames and bees to a more manageable configuration if they found the lifting required for regular brood inspections to be prohibitive.
If you are new to beekeeping but have physical limitations, you can purchase the Langstroth full depth brood frames from any bee supply shop.
